Frank McCarthy

Frank McCarthy was born and raised in New York City, where he developed his life-long love for drawing and painting. Inspired by such well-known artists as N.C. Wyeth and Will James, Mr. McCarthy attended New York's Art Students League where he began his formal art education. After graduation from high school, he enrolled in Brooklyn's Pratt Institute where he majored in illustration. He had a long and successful career in commercial art and as an illustrator for book covers, magazines and advertising. Following a trip west, Mr. McCarthy moved to Sedona, Arizona in 1974, and became a member of the prestigious Cowboy Artists of America in 1975. Since that time, he has painted countless works of art depicting the American Indian, the Cavalry, and the fur trade with the emphasis on action. A soft cover collection of his paintings was published by Ballantyne Books in 1974, and a limited edition book published by the Greenwich Workshop in 1981 sold out immediately. With successful shows throughout the West, Mr. McCarthy continues to paint his highly sought after, historically accurate portrayals of the West.
